Instructions for card downloads:
1. choose your cards on the right of this page, click on them and then right click on the full sized
image that will come up in a new browser window. A drop down menu will appear when you right
click. Select and click on "Save Picture As..." (in Firefox this will say "Save Image As...). In the
window that appears choose the file you wish to save the image in (e.g. My Pictures) and click on "save."
2. print out either on card or on paper and laminate for extra sturdiness. However, if you are only going to use
the cards with 1 child, this may not be necessary.
3. cut along grey lines, either with scissors or using a guillotine.
4. keep sets of cards together with elastic bands and organised in a box for easy access.
Pairing is about noticing that 2 things are identical and putting them together, because they are ‘the same’.
You will need: at least 10 pairs of cards with 2 identical pictures
Sorting is about looking for similarities and recognising that objects/ pictures can be grouped together in sets of ‘families’, i.e. towards sorting into categories (colours, fruit, shoes, furniture, farm animals, …): ‘They all belong together’. It requires the capacity to focus on relevant information and to ignore irrelevant details (‘visual noise’), i.e. more flexibility in thinking, active interest and motivation.
You will need: at least 3 sets of 9 cards each per set/category
Matching is about working out how things are similar despite their differences by comparing and differentiating ‘What goes with what?’, e.g. searching for something with specific properties or for a particular purpose, e.g. foot and shoe, something to pour juice into, something to write with (any pen will do!)
You will need: at least 10 pairs of 2 similar cards
